A: You can apply for Banquet, Banquet Special Event, Mixed Beverage Special Event and Tasting licenses. (More information is available once you've logged into the application.)
Q: How does the application process work?
A: Applicants can complete their applications online at www.abc.virginia.gov from any computer with Internet access. All license applications require payment using a credit card. After receiving payment, your license application will be reviewed by a special agent. If the agent has any questions, they will contact you for more information as needed. If approved, you will receive an email containing a license copy in the attachment. You can also print the license copy from the online application by logging back into this application. (See the instructions for 'How do I print my license copy?')
Q: Who will see my license application?
A: Your application is on a secure web server and will be available to the Enforcement Division to investigate your license application.
Q: What if I do not have a computer or access to the Web?
A: You can apply for your banquet license by mail. Call the ABC regional office nearest you and request paper forms. Forms and a check for the required payment can be mailed back to the regional office after completion.
Q: Which credit cards are accepted by your Web site?
A: We accept VISA, MASTERCARD, AMERICAN EXPRESS and DISCOVER credit cards for payment towards license applications.
Q: How do I get a refund if I choose to withdraw my license application?
A: You may withdraw your license application, but will be charged the application fee. A check for the remaining balance will be sent to you by mail, which could take 60 to 90 days.
Q: Who can I call for help if I have trouble with the online application?
A: For questions related to the type of license and status request, call the ABC regional office closest to you.
Q: Can I save my application before I finish completing it?
A: No, you must complete all information and submit your payment for processing at one time. Data will not be saved for future editing.
Q: How long does it take to complete the online application?
A: The time it takes depends on several factors including the type of license for which you are applying, your typing speed, etc. Please allow approximately 20-45 minutes for the total process. You can speed up the process by collecting important information before you begin the application procedure.
Q: How do I apply for a license?
A: Applying for a license is a three-step process: (1) Create a log-in user name and password, which will enable you to come back and apply for a license in the future or check the status of your license application; (2) Enter your online license application; and (3) Enter payment information for the required license application fee. It's important that you read and follow all instructions carefully. Once your payment is authorized, you cannot change any information on the license application. If necessary, you can request our regional offices to change banquet type, date and other details, but you cannot cancel your application. You may withdraw your license application, but will still have to pay the application fee.
Q: Can I apply for more than one license at a time?
A: Yes, you can apply for an event constituting multiple days or multiple event licenses after registration. The system calculates the total amount required for all your licenses and you can pay with a single submission of your credit card.
Q: When/how can I make changes to my application?
A: Once your payment is authorized you cannot change any information on the license application or cancel your application. Changes such as banquet type, date and other details can be made through our regional offices up until your application is approved or your event date. If you choose to withdraw your license application after your payment has been authorized, you will still have to pay the application fee.
Q: How do I print my license copy?
A: You can print a copy of your approved license by logging into the eLicense application. After you've logged into this application, select the link for 'Check Your Application Status' at the left navigation menu. Here you will see a listing of your previous licenses with their current status. If your license is approved, you will also see the word 'PDF' at the right hand side, which appears as a link. Select this link to open a copy of your license in a new window.<br> You may need PDF reader already installed in your computer to view/print your license.
